Social media is a great way to connect and interact with your students, as well as improve SEO and build brand authority online.
However, finding the best approach can be overwhelming, so we have put together a practical list of social media dos and don'ts.
Following these recommendations will help you build a solid, long-term social media strategy.
Social media dos
✔️ Talk about or refer to your course whenever you have the chance.
✔️ Keep all your profiles public.
✔️ Leverage all your channels (IG, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.).
✔️ Be authentic, use images you are not in, show your process, share images of your work, etc.
✔️ Write in the same tone as your posts. Remember to include a call to action.
✔️ Don't be shy. Use video selfies to engage with your community.
✔️ Your social media audience is your biggest target since they are already interested in your work.
✔️ During the launch week it is extremely important that you do the following:
○ Post two or three times a week.
○ Provide detailed information about your course.
○ Outline the course content and what students will learn.
○ Explain the final project.
○ Create expectation around the course launch.
○ Answer any questions that may come up.
✔️ After course launch, we recommend posting once a week to keep your audience interested and engaged.
✔️ Always include the link to your course.
✔️ Tag Domestika in your posts so we can share them on our social media. Remember to always use the hashtag #Domestika and mention us with @Domestika.
Social media don'ts
❌ You don't need to be present on every platform: focus on the ones that make sense for your brand and help you reach your target audience. Ask yourself these questions to know which platforms to start with: Where does my target audience spend most of their time? What mood do I want my audience to be in when they come across my brand? What is audience's attention span?
❌ You don't need to post every day: the 'more is better' approach does not apply to social media. In fact, posting too often can have negative effects such as reduced post performance and loss of followers, not to mention the toll it takes on you trying to keep up with an unsustainable schedule. Prioritize quality and consistency, not quantity.
❌ Don't ignore users: you should interact with your community and have meaningful conversations to build trust and rapport.
❌ Don't forget to analyze: all social media platforms have features that allow to track your activity and measure the results. Don't forget to analyze that information often and adjust your strategy accordingly because, as the maxim states, if you can't measure it, you can't manage it.
Tips for smart posting on social media
👉 Promotional URL: when sharing the link to your course on Instagram, we recommend that you paste it in your bio and include calls to action in your posts to direct your followers to it. Don't put the link directly in your post because it is not clickable, making it more difficult for users since they have to copy and paste. It is much more efficient to add a call to action that directs them to the link in your bio.
👉 Similarly, if you already have a link in your bio, such as your website, you can use Linktree to merge several links into one and promote different projects at the same time.
👉 Stories Highlights: creating a highlight reel of your stories (pinned to your profile) is a great way to present your Domestika course and make it easy for your followers to find the link.
👉 Link sticker: use this feature when sharing stories related to your course to give potential students direct access to your course with your promotional URL. This route is much faster than redirecting them to your bio, and you ensure that they use your link.
